How Do P&G Water Purification Packets Work?
Learn how P&G water purification technology works to provide clean drinking water for millions.
Many families and children around the world gather their drinking water from rivers, lakes and ponds. Unfortunately, this water is often contaminated with disease-causing microorganisms. P&G water purification packets provide a safe, effective way to kill bacteria and viruses and separate dirt and other contaminants — and just one packet purifies 10 liters of water.
Invented by P&G laundry scientists and developed in collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, P&G water purification packets have transformed lives across the globe with the power of clean water. They work in three ways: coagulation, flocculation and disinfection.
Step 1: Pour
The contents of one P&G water purification packet are poured into a bucket with 10 liters of water.
Step 2: Stir
The water is stirred to distribute the contents of the water purification packet. After stirring, the dirt begins to form clumps.
Step 3: Settle
Eventually the dirt settles at the bottom of the bucket.
Step 4: Filter
The water needs to be filtered through a cloth before drinking.
